How to Prepare for Your Botox, Filler, or Laser Appointment

How to Prepare for Your Botox, Filler, or Laser Appointment

Getting the best results starts before your appointment. Here’s how to set yourself up for success—whether it’s Botox, dermal fillers, or laser treatments.

1. Blood Thinners : Notify your injector or laser technician if you’re taking Blood Thinners

  •  NSAIDs (like ibuprofen), aspirin, fish oil, vitamin E, and alcohol increase bruising risk.

  • Always check with your healthcare provider if you’re on prescription blood thinners.

2. No Alcohol for 24 Hours

Alcohol dilates blood vessels and increases the likelihood of swelling and bruising—especially with injectables.

3. Skip Harsh Skincare

Discontinue:

  • Retinoids

  • Exfoliants

  • Acne medications

  • Chemical peels
Stop these at least 2–3 days before your appointment (especially for laser and microneedling).

4. Come with a Clean Face

No makeup, lotion, sunscreen, or skincare products. A clean, dry face minimizes infection risk and ensures accurate product placement.

5. Plan Around Events

Swelling, bruising, or redness is normal post-treatment.

  • Botox: Results take 3–7 days to kick in.

  • Fillers: Swelling and bruising may last up to 7–10 days.

  • Laser: You may peel or look sunburned for several days.

Don’t book right before big events, photoshoots, or vacations.

6. Eat & Hydrate

Don’t come on an empty stomach, especially if you’re nervous or prone to feeling faint. Hydration also helps with skin recovery.

7. Dress Comfortably

Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothes and avoid turtlenecks or high collars if you’re treating your face or neck.

8. Know Your Medical History

Let your provider know if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Have a history of cold sores (especially if getting lip filler or laser)

  • Take any regular medications or supplements

Bonus: Come with Realistic Goals

Have reference photos if you want a specific aesthetic, but trust your provider to advise what will work best for your face and skin type.
